On 3 December the German Occupational Hygienists Society (DGAH) held its 13th annual conference in Cologne. One presentation on the contradictions and synergy effects of occupational health and safety regulation and REACH was given by Kai-Sebastian Melzer from the Nickel Institute. In his presentation, Mr Melzer highlighted the conflicting responsibilities and assessments of REACH and OSH authorities and presented a feasible, alternative way of dealing with hazardous chemicals in those cases where exposure is an issue for workers only and not for the general public.
